Where It Began

A Warehouse, a Mission, and a Mountain of Plastic

IBC Totes Recycle was founded with a straightforward observation: every year, millions of Intermediate Bulk Containers end up in landfills after a single use, despite being engineered to last for decades. Each one represents roughly 75 pounds of high-density polyethylene, a galvanized steel cage, and the embodied energy of its manufacture. Throwing that away after one trip is not just wasteful — it is economically irrational.

We started in a modest 5,000-square-foot warehouse on the outskirts of Charlotte, North Carolina, armed with a pressure washer, a forklift, and the conviction that a profitable business could be built entirely around keeping IBC totes in circulation. The early days were hands-on: personally picking up used totes from local manufacturers, cleaning and inspecting each one, and delivering them to new buyers across the Carolinas.

What started as a regional operation quickly proved a broader point. Demand for affordable, quality-inspected recycled totes was far greater than anyone expected. Businesses wanted a reliable alternative to buying new, and they wanted a partner who understood both the logistics and the environmental stakes. That is exactly the niche we carved out.

CHARLOTTE, NCIBCEST. CHARLOTTE

From Local to Nationwide

Growth was never the goal for its own sake. Every expansion was driven by customer demand and the opportunity to divert more plastic from landfills.

Building the Infrastructure

As demand grew, we invested in purpose-built reconditioning equipment: automated wash systems capable of meeting FDA food-grade standards, industrial-scale drying tunnels, and a rigorous multi-point inspection line. We expanded our Charlotte facility and established logistics partnerships that allow us to pick up and deliver totes across all 48 contiguous states. The infrastructure was built to handle volume without compromising the quality standards that earned our early reputation.

The Closed-Loop Vision

We do not see ourselves as just a tote vendor. Our business model is a closed-loop supply chain: we buy used totes from manufacturers who no longer need them, recondition them to meet exacting standards, sell them to businesses that benefit from lower costs, and then buy them back again when they are done. Totes that cannot be reconditioned are responsibly broken down — steel recycled at metal facilities, HDPE pelletized for new plastic products. Nothing is wasted.

Key Milestones

A timeline of the moments that defined our growth and deepened our commitment to sustainable industrial packaging.

Year 1

Founded in Charlotte, NC

Opened our first warehouse on Long Creek Park Drive with a team of three. Started collecting used IBC totes from local chemical and food manufacturers across the greater Charlotte metro area.

Year 2

First 1,000 Totes Recycled

Reached the milestone of 1,000 totes processed in a single year. Demonstrated that consistent quality and competitive pricing could sustain a recycling-first business model. Secured recurring contracts with regional distributors.

Year 3

Expanded to Nationwide Service

Established freight partnerships covering all 48 contiguous states. Businesses from California to Maine began shipping used totes to us and ordering reconditioned inventory for their operations.

Year 4

Launched Reconditioning Facility

Invested in a dedicated reconditioning line featuring automated pressure-washing, chemical sanitization, leak-testing, and valve replacement stations. Achieved food-grade and chemical-grade reconditioning certifications.

Year 5

10,000 Totes Recycled Annually

Annual throughput crossed 10,000 totes. Introduced grading tiers (A, B, C) so customers could choose the right balance of condition and cost for their specific applications.

Year 6

Hit 50K Annual Recycled Totes

Scaled operations to process over 50,000 totes per year. Expanded the team, doubled warehouse space, and launched a dedicated transportation division to control pickup and delivery quality end-to-end.

Present

Serving Businesses Across the USA

Today we operate one of the most comprehensive IBC tote recycling programs in the country. From agriculture and food production to chemicals and pharmaceuticals, businesses in every sector rely on us for cost-effective, sustainable IBC solutions.

Our Core Values

These are not slogans on a wall. They are the decision-making framework behind every tote we process, every quote we send, and every partnership we build.

Sustainability First

Every business decision starts with the question: does this reduce waste? We measure success not just in revenue, but in tons of plastic diverted from landfills, gallons of water conserved, and carbon emissions avoided. Sustainability is not a department here; it is the foundation.

Quality Assurance

A recycled tote is only valuable if it performs reliably. Every container we sell goes through a multi-point inspection covering structural integrity, valve function, gasket condition, and cleanliness. We publish our grading criteria openly so buyers know exactly what they are getting.

Customer Partnership

We work to understand each customer's specific application, volume requirements, and budget constraints. Whether you need five totes or five thousand, the consultation process is the same. Long-term partnerships — not one-off transactions — are what drive our growth.

Innovation

We continuously invest in better reconditioning technology, more efficient logistics routing, and smarter inventory management. Innovation means finding ways to extend the usable life of every tote by one more cycle, reduce turnaround time by one more day, and cut waste by one more percentage point.

Transparency

We publish our grading standards, share our environmental impact data, and provide detailed invoicing. No hidden fees, no vague condition descriptions, no surprise charges. When we say a tote is Grade A, our inspection checklist backs that up. When we cite environmental savings, the math is available.

Our Team

People Who Care About What Happens Next

Our team includes logistics specialists, reconditioning technicians, quality inspectors, and sustainability advocates. What unites everyone at IBC Totes Recycle is a shared belief that industrial waste is a solvable problem, not an inevitable cost of doing business. We hire people who take ownership of outcomes, who are uncomfortable with “good enough,” and who understand that every tote we handle represents both a business transaction and an environmental decision.

We invest in ongoing training so our technicians stay current on reconditioning best practices, regulatory requirements, and new materials entering the IBC market. Cross-functional knowledge sharing is standard practice: our logistics team understands reconditioning workflows, and our reconditioning team understands customer requirements. This means faster problem-solving, fewer errors, and better outcomes for every client we serve.

We are not a faceless operation. When you contact us, you get a real person who knows your account history, understands your industry, and can make decisions on the spot. That is by design.

Built by Practitioners

Every member of our leadership team has hands-on experience in IBC reconditioning, logistics, or industrial waste management. We make decisions based on floor-level knowledge, not boardroom assumptions.

Based in Charlotte, NC

Our headquarters and primary reconditioning facility are located in Charlotte, North Carolina — centrally positioned on the East Coast with excellent highway and freight access to serve customers nationwide.
